My fathers cat Blondie died today

This morning Blondie, one of my fathers two remaining cats died.
He was quite old, not exactly sure how old as he just turned up in the garden one day about 20 years ago, but we reckon he was somewhere between 22 and 25.

Age finally caught up with him, he had been getting slower for the past year, preferring to staying indoors in the warm on his favourite chair more often than not. For the past couple of weeks he had what seemed to be a cold, the vet had put him on antibiotics and he seemed to improve, but at the end of last week he became sick again, this time with some blood coming from his nose and a lack of interest in food and water. He was taken back to the vet with the feeling he would need to be put to sleep, but the vet thought another treatment of antibiotics would help, and after a shaky start did seem to be working, but over the weekend he was not good and this morning was rushed to the vet as soon as they opened and unfortunately had to be put to sleep, which all things considered was the kindest thing.

He was a wiry little bugger who would chase anything including big rats and foxes, he would spend hours outside in the garden watching and hunting, and often brought trophies from his kills or captures inside for everyone to share, he was such a considerate cat!

Rest in peace Blondie, we all miss you.

Sophie the cat died today in England

One of my oldest cats, Sophie (a.k.a. Sophie-Kitten) died today in England.
She was about 24 years old and had lived a wonderful life. My parents and I got her when she was just a tiny kitten back when I was younger and living in England with my parents. I moved to The Netherlands 13 years ago and have other cats now but have been back and seen the others at my parents place several times over the years.

Sophie had a lovely nature and was a cheek little scamp. She never really grew very big and always looked like a young kitten, no matter how old she got.
She had almost boundless energy and could jump up to the highest places in the house, looking down on us with a very proud look as she sat there!

She used to love sitting on my shoulders and would eagerly jump up on them any chance she got. She also used to enjoy sitting on my stomach while I had a bath!

Rest in peace Sophie, we shall all miss you.

One of our cats, Mhysy, died :(

Unfortunately one of our cats, Mhysy, died on Friday 18th March 2011.
She was quite old, 18 years, and she had only been checked out at the vet’s a couple of weeks ago as she had been losing a lot of weight suddenly, but the vet said she checked out OK, no illnesses he could find, he even tested her blood and found nothing wrong, he said she was basically as healthy as a kitten, but just old.
I was able to be with Mhysy when the time came and held her and comforted her as best i could up until the end.
She is now buried in our garden, and we have placed a nice plant called “Pieris japonica ‘Forest Flame'” on her grave as a tribute.

RIP Mhysy, we will always miss you.

One of our neighbours hates our cats Episode 3 – Return of the Cats

The story concludes.
You can read the previous episodes here:
One of our neighbours hates our cats Episode1 – Cat Wars
One of our neighbours hates our cats Episode2 – The Cats Strike Back

Earlier in the week Mrs BadBunny had a few confusing voice mails left on her phone from the mediators about a new appointment – they seemed unable to correctly pronounce the date. Eventually a date was agreed on, so on Wednesday February 9th 2011 at about 7.15pm Mrs BadBunny wandered over to the community centre near where we live for the meeting. (I was still not allowed to join in as I am still very narked off about all this).

The stupid neighbour announces he didn’t really want to have this meeting as he knows there isn’t really anything that can be done about cats getting into his garden – duh, asswipe, so why arrange it in the first place!

He bleated on about having stones in his garden and fake plastic grass, and how every two or three days he has to shovel up half a bucket of cat shit from on top of it all. Well, I know our cats can shit quite a bit, but we also get that much from them in our own garden, so would be pretty fucking surprised if they had enough left to do the same in his garden.

The gobshite admits now he is not even sure it’s our cats, but says the problem started a couple of years ago just after we moved in. Well tough bloody luck, since we moved in many things have happened such as government collapsing in England and the price of petrol going up, and I am quite sure that is not the fault of our cats either, no matter how much they try.

He also admits we already did what we could to reduce/prevent the (unproven) problem and that their isn’t really anything else to be done, he accepts that we would not even consider keeping our cats indoors and he would not expect us too.

So, all of this was for nothing except aggravation caused to us. Bollocks to him, I wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire.

Cat’s of the Bunnies

These are our cats. They are a bunch of lazy bastards, but then ain’t all cats?

Boris

We got Boris from someone we used to work with. I am too sober to remember their name right now or even how long ago we got Boris, though I am sure Mrs BadBadBunny will remind me the moment she reads this, but it was several years ago now. His previous owner called him Venus but we thought that was a bit gay so changed it to Boris.

Likes: Getting fur all over the settee. Having his arse bitten by George. Water from anywhere and everywhere.
Dislikes: Not being fed 24 hours a day
Special Skills: Not getting crap stuck on his fur around his arse any more. Sitting in places he should not be, breaking stuff to make room while doing so.
Appearing in multiple lolcat lols
Nicknames: Bollocks, Morris, Doris (and Venus when he has been really stupid and we want to embarrass him further)

Buxton

Buxton (Bucky for short) just arrived in the garden one day about 10 years ago and never left, so we adopted him. (Or he adopted us).

Likes: Eating everyone else’s food. Trying to take over my computer chair. Smacking the other cats with his big paw-fist. Having his whiskers rubbed. Talking.
Dislikes: Getting sat on when he is on my computer chair. Not being allowed to eat everyone else’s food.
Special Skills: Giving Hi-5’s and Hi-10’s. Standing upright on back legs. Giving you his paw when asked. Rolling over when told.
Nicknames: Bastard, You Bastard, STOP-THAT!, OI!, Fucky-Bucky

George

George was rescued from a local cat sanctuary. They showed us an area full of cats to adopt and George barged his way through all the others and stuck his paw in the air as if to say “me, me, take me”, so we did.

Likes: The settee. Fighting with us on the stairs. Sitting on top of the pigeon cage with them all pretending to be a pigeon.
Dislikes: The (nice) neighbours cat called Moos (Pronounced Moze, short for Moses).
Special Skills: Burping in your face. Nuzzling your chin and making it itch. Getting fatter. Giving you his paw when asked.
Nicknames: Gorgeous George, Sod, Fatso, Fat Lump, Lazy Lump

Lottie

We got Lottie from another ex-work colleague who had a baby and said she could not keep the cat as she was jealous of the baby and had started peeing over the babies things. Sounded like a bunch of crap but we were happy enough to adopt Lottie.

Likes: Getting me to refill the bowl of cat crunchies. Talking.
Dislikes: Her tail, she thinks its evil and fights with it a lot.
Special Skills: Being small but very heavy at the same time.
Nicknames: Dottie, Snotty, Itteh-Bitteh-Kitteh

Mhysy

Mhysy (pronounced my-see, means Little Girl in Dutch) is the oldest of the lot, she is about 18 years old, we rescued her from the cat sanctuary when she was about 6 years old. She must have had a bad start in life as she was scared to show herself for about two years and hid under the bed, settee etc, but gradually she relaxed and wanders about the house mostly normally now, though pretty much can’t stand to have the other cats near her, though lately actually tolerates them slightly when eating from the same bowl as her at the same time.
She is getting a bit stiff with age now and walks a bit like those fighting skeletons in the original Jason and the Argonauts movie (see video clip example here)

Likes: Her own private cat litter box in the garden. Taking things easy. Nagging for our food as we eat.
Dislikes: Practically everything.
Special Skills: Being old. Very visible long white claws. Trying to climb across the settee and failing. Never leaving the house/garden. Hot-air balloon impressions (hissing at the other cats).
Nicknames: Bitch

UPDATE: Unfortunately Mhysy died on Friday 18th March 2011.
